Rebuild Indiana: Helping the Victims of the Recent Tornadoes

Over our 26-year history, Guitarworks has enjoyed organizing events for a variety of charitable organizations. Aspiring musicians have used their talents to good effect, helping their community and having fun making music in the process.

This spring we are asking for your help for two good causes, the Special Olympics of Johnson County and relief for families affected by the recent southern Indiana Tornadoes.

Next Saturday, March 24th, we’re hosting a night of live music at Under the Sun Café in Whiteland. For a $5 admission, you can hear 3 great bands live, The M80s, Mission One Level Zero (both “graduates” of our Band Builders program) and Theotokos.

Under the Sun will serve home cookin’ and we are asking for donations of baby supplies, senior aids, over the counter medications and cleaning supplies, trash bags and gloves, which will be donated to he Henryville area Red Cross!

Join us for all the fun at Under the Sun Café, a totally voluntary, not-for-profit extension of Whiteland United

Methodist Church. Doors open at 6, music starts 6:30. Bring the family, come early and stay late!

We will continue to collect goodies for Henryville at Guitarworks up until our Spring Outdoor concert on Sunday, April 22.

Make plans to join us on Saturday March 24th to help kick-off this month long fundraising effort. Make a small donation with your cover fee, bring some relief supplies, hear 3 hours of great music and eat like a King!

See you there!

Kevin

Thank You!

I want to thank all my friends and clients for the many cards and calls, prayers and well wishes during my recent surgery and recovery period. Most of you know I had total hip replacement surgery on January 25th. This was my second hip – so now I have the whole set. It’s a big procedure, and I am pleased to say that this time things went MUCH better than round one.

I am back to work pretty much full time- although I am not yet working marathon 12-16 hour days, as is my habit. I’m here a lot because I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have been enamored by music, the guitar in particular, since I was a little tyke, and I consider it a great blessing every day to be able to work in the field I love here at Guitarworks.

For 26 years now I have worked to the best of my ability to improve my ability to serve you. I constantly preach to my men that our goal is to raise the bar of service and professionalism, that we cannot be satisfied to be better than our competitors, we must reach for the very best we can achieve. I believe that limitations are self-imposed, and that if we have faith in ourselves, and work diligently to improve, then we have no limits. I believe that my staff has worked hard to serve you well in my absence – I am convinced I have the best crew we’ve ever assembled. I believe the results of their determination are evident in their good work. I thank my staff for working so hard to uphold the Guitarworks standard while I was out.

I am extremely grateful for all the kindness you have shown - I am simply overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. So again, THANK YOU so much for all you have done for me, it means a lot. I am glad to be back, and look forward to once again serving each you personally.

Sincerely,

Kevin Franklin

We Can Rebuild Him...

We have the technology!

Hello from Guitarworks’ General Manager Steve Rogowski (most of you know me as Rogo)! By now, it’s no secret that Guitarworks’ founder and owner, Kevin Franklin will be having hip replacement surgery soon. You’ve seen him rolling around the store in a wheelchair for the last couple months, working through the pain. He’s a hard guy to stop, and he wouldn’t think of getting himself fixed until after our Christmas sales peak. Well, he’s now committed to a scheduled “cut date” of January 25th.

True to form, Kevin’s big concern is not how the surgery will go, or how much it’s gonna hurt - stuff most folks would worry about. Kevin’s big worry is how will Guitarworks fare in his absence. So I’m here today to promise you that the standard of excellence Guitarworks is known for, will be upheld without fail. As Kevin’s right hand man you have my promise on that.

Those of you who know Kevin personally know he’s one driven man. Guitarworks is Kevin’s LIFE and it’s been his lifelong goal to do things BETTER than ANYONE ELSE in the HISTORY OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS. It is gonna drive him crazy during the downtime and recovery period not to be here. So we not only have to keep the flag flying while he’s gone, but I need to make him happy; I need to make a lot of merchandise disappear.

So for at least a couple months I’ll be running things as Captain Rogo. I plan to make sure you have buying opportunities that you simply CANNOT RESIST!

Limited opportunity bargains, special buys and trade-ins are happening all the time. If you LET ME KNOW what’s on your wish list, I can steer you towards your BEST BARGAINS. Feel free to send me an email and let me know what you’re after, and what you have to trade! I’ll make sure to contact you when then we receive the products you need.

Taylor Roadshow in depth

The Taylor Roadshow is an experience that every guitar player should be a part of at least once in their playing time.  It is a great opportunity to get your hands on some really fantastic instruments that you may not ever see again, let alone, play.  We have been a part of the Taylor Roadshow program from the beginning and as our website says Kevin helped to pilot the program here at Guitarworks.  We will be seeing about 30 guitars from Taylor this go around that are not only unique, but also there will be some custom shop instruments that you can buy without the 6-8 week wait on the build to order.  Aside from the guitars, there are quite a few benefits from the clinic side of the event.  Mike Ausman and Wayne Johnson are both very good guitar players with a vast amount of knowledge that will be personably accessible in the clinic.. This is a very informal event where people get to ask questions!  Not to mention, you get to see a Grammy winning guitar player playing on some of the best guitars in the industry.

Wayne Johnson is a Berklee College graduate that has played with Manhattan Transfer.  He's played on countless studio recordings and with other groups including his own solo projects.  Just watching Wayne play is an experience and when you come to the Roadshow you get to ask questions and get to know him.

After joining us at the Roadshow, you will be knowledgeable about what the different Taylor body shapes and tone woods. Compare the sound of a dreadnought versus a Grand Auditorium or Grand Symphony.  Learn how the different woods like maple, rosewood, mahogany and koa can change your sound. Hear firsthand the benefit of different tops the difference in projection and overall dynamic range of those instruments. Most importantly you’ll know how you can use them to your advantage. This will all be backed with information on what models come stock with the different woods, and how you can find the right wood and body shape to fit your playing needs.  We know that sometimes when you are looking at getting into a professional level instrument it can be very difficult to figure out what you need to suit you.  This whole experience is designed to help you get past the learning curve and understand your options so you can decide which instrument to buy.

We will have special pricing available on all Taylor models in the store – yes that includes the Roadshow instruments! We will have financing and layaway available on most all models.  We look forward to seeing you!  Please feel free to stop by our website for more information or you can give us a call at 317-885-1510.

The Taylor Roadshow will begin at 7:00 PM on the Guitarworks stage and there will be quite a few people here so don’t be afraid to come early so you can get good seats. Maybe even spend a little extra time with that special guitar that is begging you to take it home.
