The Speaker makes the Difference

No matter what audio equipment you own - no matter how great you instrument and your playing skill – no matter how good your amp or PA system maybe, the last link in the audio chain is the speaker itself. It is the point where the audio signal is finally converted back in to audible sound waves. The efficiency and frequency response affect the audio quality you can PRODUCE, no matter how great of a signal you PRESENT to the speaker.

Many confusing terms are used to describe how well a speaker works. Terms like Impedance (measured in Ohms), Frequency response measured in Hertz (Hz), Power ratings measured in Watts, Amplitude measured in Decibels (dB) and efficiency
ratings expressed as SPL (sound pressure level, expressed at 1 watt/1 meter).

With this confusing language, it’s easy for unscrupulous manufacturers of cheap speakers to make their “specs” look good. They express unreal power ratings, frequency responses with wide variances in efficiency, and downright deceptive efficiency ratings.

A speaker made by “Brand X” might be the right size, and state an impedance and power rating that’s right for your specific application, and yet sound horrific. All the specs in the world can’t tell you what a speaker will sound like in your gear. A higher quality speaker that may be a great product, but if used in the wrong application
will not sound as you wish.

Selecting the proper speaker to replace original equipment, weather as a repair or as an upgrade to original equipment, requires a trained expert. When replacing existing speakers in higher quality gear, Deric can cross reference speakers loaded in your cabinets to match. The truth is, many MANY speaker cabinet manufacturers and amp makers use Eminence or Celestion speakers. Very few of the companies make their own speakers, with the exception of their highest end products, the real touring grade speakers. So the cabinet makers will have the speaker drivers “private labeled”. The “badge” on the magnet may match the name on the cabinet, but the speaker itself is actually made by one of the few major quality speaker manufacturers.

Your speaker may say JBL or Mackie or EV or Yamaha, to name a few, but the SPEAKER is most likely made by Eminence or another of the big speaker makers.

We can find the right model to fit your needs, without the added expense of buying private labeled speaker from the cabinet maker.
